O Chair

O is a wooden chair with brass feet. O chair is one of By Pizarros best sellers because of its beautiful design language. We love the form we accomplished and believe it is a chair that is easily incorporated. At first, we created this design as a custom feature for the interior design at Blinking Owl Distillery. Now, we have seen this design in-home dining, restaurant cornerpiece and even at an outdoor bar. The material choices are natural and crisp which makes it easy to understand. The design simplicity was only accomplishable by going through a very extensive prototyping phase. We prototyped this chair three times and did months of testing before putting it into high volume manufacturing. The wood cut-out was dado cut and joined through a clamping process we developed. To speed up the manufacturing time, we designed custom jigs to clamp parts quickly. We are a fan of testing our product to ensure that it has a long-lasting quality.

The O chair has two parts, the wood and a brass foot feature. The foot creates a seamless transition between materials.

Wood

The wood has been processed through attaching solid pieces of wood. The wood is cut into curved sections and then sanded to create comfortable shapes.

Brass

A sheet of brass is used around the feet for structural integrity and cost benefits. The brass creates a floating effect with the chair.

CONSTRUCTION

At By Pizarro we love going through an iterative design process. For O chair we cut solid wood with curvature and attached them through a dado and finger joint process. We used scrap material to create jigs and reinforce the design. The O chair features a floating seat because finger joints are incredibly durable. The seat is angled to handle weight and provides less pressure on the joint.
