At the Marriot in San Mateo, we provided millwork for the elevator entrance and vanities for the bathrooms. Though this sounds like a small project, a bathroom vanity is easily multiple between 100-200 rooms. We take the specification drawing process very seriously because one mistake can also multiply into a frenzy. Our expertise in this type of millwork has only secured our clients that our mistakes are not multipliable. The elevators facade was confirmed in 6 separate locations, and each featured solid wood exterior corners, ceiling panel veneer, plywood ceiling hangers, MDF reinforcements, and custom wraps. We use a lot of natural wood in our projects and always specify the grain direction. We find that this specific detail helps make a space feel more significant and less constrained, an experience that is extremely important in an elevator. We provide ready material but leave the custom cutting for the installation phase to ensure that we do not overuse material and create waste. We keep every element in mind down to the inch and ensure that our practices follow sustainable philosophies.
